Understanding the UGC NET Examination
The National Eligibility Test (NET), administered by NTA on behalf of UGC, serves as the gateway to academic careers in India. Qualifying this exam makes you eligible for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) with monthly stipend or appointment as Assistant Professor in universities and degree colleges across the country. The exam covers Paper 1 (Teaching Aptitude & Research Methodology) and a subject-specific Paper 2 from over 80 disciplines.
Why Thousands Choose UGC NET Every Year
- Gateway to Academia: The only recognized path to becoming an Assistant Professor in Indian higher education institutions.
- JRF Financial Support: Successful JRF candidates receive ₹31,000-35,000 monthly fellowship for up to 5 years of research.
- 80+ Subject Options: From Humanities to Sciences, choose a paper aligned with your postgraduation.
- No Upper Age Limit for Lectureship: Unlike JRF (capped at 30), there's no age bar for the Assistant Professor track.
- Twice-a-Year Opportunity: NTA conducts it in June and December, giving you multiple attempts annually.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to appear for UGC NET?
You need a Master's degree with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD). Final year PG students can also appear. For JRF, the upper age limit is 30 years (relaxable for reserved categories). No age limit applies for the Assistant Professor eligibility alone.
What is the exam pattern?
UGC NET has two papers in a single 3-hour session. Paper 1 has 50 questions (50 marks) on Teaching Aptitude, Research, Comprehension, Communication, and General Awareness. Paper 2 has 100 questions (200 marks) on your chosen subject. No negative marking.
How is JRF different from NET qualification?
NET qualification makes you eligible for Assistant Professor positions. JRF is a higher merit — it provides a monthly research fellowship (₹31,000 for initial 2 years, ₹35,000 for remaining 3 years) along with Assistant Professor eligibility. JRF has limited seats based on cutoff.
When does NTA conduct UGC NET?
Typically twice a year — June and December cycles. NTA announces exact dates 2-3 months before the exam. Registration opens on the official NTA website.
Can I prepare for UGC NET while working?
Absolutely. Our recorded classes and flexible schedule are designed for working professionals. Most students in our batches balance jobs or further studies alongside preparation. The 6-12 month batch duration gives ample time for thorough coverage.
